\u00a0<\/span><\/span>On Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 PM, Dario Cardinal Castrill\u00f3n Hoyos, the former President of the Pontifical Commission Eccl\u00e9sia Dei, will celebrate Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the High Altar of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. The stated occasion is the fifth anniversary of the election of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The French website Golias<\/a> published a letter that Castrill\u00f3n Hoyos had sent to Bishop Pican, who had been jailed for his failure to report an abuser-priest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

La lettre du pr\u00e9lat colombien intervient juste apr\u00e8s la condamnation de Mgr Pican \u00e0 trois mois de prison avec sursis pour avoir \u00ab\u00a0prot\u00e9g\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb un pr\u00eatre p\u00e9dophile de son dioc\u00e8se, l\u2019abb\u00e9 Bissey<\/strong> condamn\u00e9 lui-m\u00eame \u00e0 18 ans de prison.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On lira avec stup\u00e9faction que dans sa missive le cardinal Castrillon Hoyos<\/strong> \u00ab\u00a0f\u00e9licite<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb l\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque fran\u00e7ais \u00ab\u00a0de n\u2019avoir pas d\u00e9nonc\u00e9 un pr\u00eatre \u00e0 l\u2019administration civile<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb. Et le responsable au Vatican de poursuivre\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Je me r\u00e9jouis d\u2019avoir un confr\u00e8re dans l\u2019\u00e9piscopat qui, aux yeux de l\u2019histoire et de tous les autres \u00e9v\u00eaques du monde, aura pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 la prison plut\u00f4t que de d\u00e9noncer son fils-pr\u00eatre<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Plus loin dans son texte, le cardinal Castrillon Hoyos<\/strong> appuiera et fondera la position de Mgr Pican<\/strong> sur un passage de Saint Paul. Il lui \u00e9crit en effet\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Nous nous rappelons \u00e0 votre \u00e9gard du mot de Saint Paul\u00a0:\u00a0\u00bbDans tout le Pr\u00e9toire et partout ailleurs, mes cha\u00eenes ont acquis, dans le Christ, une vraie notori\u00e9t\u00e9, et la plupart des fr\u00e8res, enhardis du fait m\u00eame de ces cha\u00eenes, redoublent d\u2019une belle audace \u00e0 proclamer sans crainte la Parole (Phil1,13-14)”<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Et, en guise de conclusion, le cardinal du Vatican de signaler \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque fran\u00e7ais que la \u00ab\u00a0Congr\u00e9gation<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb vaticane du Clerg\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0transmettra copie<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb de cette missive \u00ab\u00a0\u00e0 toutes les conf\u00e9rences d\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaques<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb de l\u2019Eglise catholique \u00ab\u00a0pour encourager les fr\u00e8res de l\u2019\u00e9piscopat dans ce domaine si d\u00e9licat<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Castrill\u00f3n Hoyos \u201ccongratulates\u201d Pican for not having reported the abuser to the police, and says that he is going to send a copy of this letter \u201cto all the conferences of bishops to encourage the brothers of the episcopate in this delicate matter.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We now know in part why bishops did not report pedophiles to the police.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I hope that Castill\u00f3n Hoyos gets a warm welcome in Washington.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
