He married Lydia Greene Underhill; they had four children: Edith, Joseph, Margaret, and Mary Trimble.<\/p>\n<p>Lydia was a Quaker but was read out of meeting for marrying Henry, and Episcopalian.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lydia-Green-Underhill-younger.png\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[4361]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4379\" src=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lydia-Green-Underhill-younger.png\" alt=\"Lydia Green Underhill younger\" width=\"231\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: cassenet; font-size: 18pt;\">Lydia Greene Underhill<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mary Trimble was apparently named for Merritt Trimble, the husband of her mother&#8217;s sister, Mary Underhill.<\/p>\n<p>Henry was taken into the dry goods firm of Lawrence, Trimble, &amp; Co, \u00a0where his father Joseph was a partner. Daniel Trimble committed suicide in 1850 by jumping from the Hoboken ferry in a fit of despondency. The firm was renamed Lawrence, Taylor, and Co., 314 Broadway, and went through several other renamings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Henry-Effingham-lawrence-business.png\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[4361]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4363\" src=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Henry-Effingham-lawrence-business-269x300.png\" alt=\"Henry Effingham lawrence business\" width=\"269\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Henry-Effingham-lawrence-business-269x300.png 269w, http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/wp-content\/uploads\/Henry-Effingham-lawrence-business.png 341w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Henry&#8217;s house in Manhattan was at 57 East Twenty-fifth St. near Madison Square; Merritt Trimble lived next door, and other Lawrences also occupied houses on the block. The family went to Grace Church, where they occupied the pew immediately behind the future Edith Wharton. It was designed by\u00a0J. Cleveland Cady , who also designed the old Metropolitan Opera House. The house had a pipe organ and contained Henry&#8217;s collection of Hudson River School paintings.
