{"id":249,"date":"2009-10-29T16:19:59","date_gmt":"2009-10-29T22:19:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/?p=249"},"modified":"2009-10-29T16:21:16","modified_gmt":"2009-10-29T22:21:16","slug":"the-dayspring-from-on-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/the-dayspring-from-on-high-249.htm","title":{"rendered":"The Dayspring from on High"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormalCxSpFirst\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ignatiusinsight.com\/images\/bookcovers\/hsylvester_dayspring_lg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"448\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormalCxSpFirst\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">I am happy to report that Father Fessio acted on my advice and has republished <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Daypring<\/em>, a novel by Harry Sylvester about the encounter of a secular Easterner with the Penitentes of New Mexico.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.podles.org\/dialogue\/dayspring-13.htm \">December 2007<\/a> I commented on the original edition.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Every time I visit the Southwest something extraordinary happens \u2013 I try not to expect it and set myself up for a disappointment, but<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 I always\u00a0feel<\/span> why the Southwest, especially New Mexico, has exerted such an influence on artists of all kinds.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The starkness of the landscape and the Indian and Hispanic cultures are more alien to an Easterner than the cities of Europe are. It is impossible amid this landscape and these cultures to hide from the facts of life and love and death, of sorrow and blood, and for the hope for a mysterious world beyond death into which we shall all enter.
