The English translations of Spanish menu items in Buenos Aires were interesting, but in Patagonia the menus were challenging. At a caf\u00e9 in a national park, we were presented with the following choices.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"margin-right: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<blockquote style=\"margin-right: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">Entradas<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">Minestrone<br \/>\nSoup of Gourd <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><br \/>\nCaesar Salad: mix of vegetables, cheese chicken, grudges, cream of anchovies and capers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">Tibia de Vegetables<br \/>\nVegetable Tibia: peppers and carrots in Julian, tomatos roasted, asparagus, champignones skipped in soybean sauce on mix of green, with grudges of cheese and Popes bolangere.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">Plato Principal<br \/>\n<\/span>Steak of Garlic Sausage to the Cheese, on pure enceballado to the screw, rustic sauce of red wine and Popes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">By careful comparison with the Spanish menu we decided that the Popes were potatoes (papas), but some items (to the screw? grudges?) remained shrouded in darkest gloom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\">I ordered minestrone.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'\" class=\"Apple-style-span\"><br \/>\nOur guide was going to tell the restaurant that it needed to employ the services of an expert translator (his girlfriend) to work on its menu, but we Americans all cried him down, as someone who wanted to ruin one of the simple pleasures of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-29\" data-postid=\"29\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-29 themify_builder themify_builder_front\">\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Serving as a world language has its disadvantages.
